Doodle Day 63 Color Envy

Doodle Day 63 Color Envy

We call ourselves Etsy’s Best Kept Secrets and this month we are all letting you in on our secrets of how color influences our work. 

 

  You want to know my little secret?  Color really used to scare me.  During my days as an art student I used to stress myself with the idea that I was not good with color.  Somehow I got it in my little noggin that because I never used lots of vibrant colors in my paintings and prints, I did not have a unique grasp of how to use color.  I had a classic case of color envy.  I wanted to use color the way I so admired others.  Now I know differently.

Now I understand that I love to use color effectively.  Color for me is often the icing on the cake or the cherry on top of the ice cream Sunday.  It often becomes the little extra special accent meant to enhance the design.    A beautiful example of this is the use of the sparkling citrus orange sapphires against the brushed gunmetal gray sterling silver in my Spoon Full of Sugar necklace pictured below.

 Although I am pushing myself to use lots of color in my daily doodles, I still find comfort when using little punches of color to enhance the image.   A few favorites of mine are Doodle Day 59 , Doodle Day 39 ,and Doodle Day 38 .
